Our Story

Rev. J. Elmor Morrison (1896-1965)
Ma Liu Shui & Kau To (1956)

In 1950s, Canadian Assembly of God Missionary Rev. J. Elmor Morrison came to HK from China and settled in Sha Tin due to political turmoil. On the one hand to develop the ministry of the seminary and on the other hand to establish a church with friends in KauTo Village. After the church building was completed, it was be used as a church on weekends and as a kindergarten and daycare center on weekdays.

Rev. Siu Hoi-lei (1929-2010)
Chinese Missionary Seminary (1987)

In 1960, Rev. Morrison returned to Canada and the church was managed by South East Asia District Council of Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada. It was still used as church, kindergarten and villagers’ gathering. Afterward, because of the development of Sha Tin, the number of children in the village decreased, so the kindergarten was closed. In 1987, the church building was managed by Pentecostal Church of HK. Under the leadership of Rev. Siu Hoi-lei, KauTo Chapel was used as a retreat camp, seminary and gospel organization until 2002.

In 2012, PCHK Tai Po Church began to use KauTo Chapel for retreat, training and international students’ fellowship. In 2018, Typhoon Mangkhut attacked Hong Kong and severely damaged the chapel facilities. In the grace of God, in mid-2019, PCHK Tai Po Church decided to renovate the KauTo Chapel and launched a church planting plan.

Tai Po Church sent Rev. Joshua KWOK and 9 brothers and sisters to KauTo Chapel to start the weekly Sunday gathering In October 2021. We have received in prayer that this chapel will be a family of God’s love, a lighthouse for the community and a river of Living Water.
